Document Summary

The urge to move towards one"s goals to accomplish tasks. Needs: inherently biological state of de ciency (cellular or bodily) that compel drives (an example of this would be thirst due to lack of water) Drive: perceive state of tension that occurs when our bodies are de cient in some need: this is seen as the push , an example is hunger, it is uncomfortable so it pushes us to eat. Incentive: an external object or event that motivates behaviour: this is seen as the pull , something that draws towards a task. Behaviour is driven by the need to balance physiological systems when depleted. Homeostasis: physiological equilibrium or balance around an optimal set point. Set point: ideal xed setting of a particular physiological system. Our needs cause drives which cause motivated behaviour. We have a need to belong and achieve (af liation, accomplishment) Before more sophisticated, higher-order needs can be met, certain primary needs.
