Because experiences of ourselces are objective, we only get 1st person perspective. Everything else that we see from other people is in 3rd. Self-other equivalence is tied to psychological diversity. Infants need to understand themselves objectively and that they can be viewed objectively by another person. There is a self, and then there is an objective self. The self is what you are experiences right now, your subjective experiences. Objective self is a representation of yourself and you can imagine yourself objectively doing something. You can represent yourself at another moment in time. Self as object of others" attention doesn"t really develop until 2 years of age. Presented 3 mos. olds in a high chair and had them move their legs.
