SOSA 1003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Psychoactive Drug, Labeling Theory
Document Summary
There"s a symbolic divide between what we think is for us and what"s for others. Whether or not a person is labelled deviant depends on: one"s status, the time period in which one lives, being caught committing a deviant act, race/ethnicity. The result of an attribute either pertains to one"s body, character or social group which can devalue one"s social and personal identity. It involves a powerfully negative label eg: stoner, junkie. Which can result in being disquali ed from full social acceptance and can have a radical e ect on how you see yourself.
