Countries were economically and geographically dependant on the usa which made kept their domination around the world. Americans believed it was their responsibility to dominate. Monroe doctrine south america was off limit (1823) Every nation, apart from brazil, was spanish dominated: looted aztec territories, raw materials, lumber. During the monroe doctrine, the territories were starting to become independent. Corruption and rivalry between the elite and who wanted to rule held them back: cycle of constant struggle. End of 1940s american idea of their territory took over due to economic and geographical reasons. Help south americans become stronger in the fight against communism. South americans liked this due to attention of fascism/nazism as the population was german and also they had money coming in. Argentina did not like this due to their european population, government was militaristic and right wing.
