* two types of economic system: production system, distribution system. Production system - in which everyone makes their own goods. They collect raw materials and manufacture them into finished products for their own use. Most common among hunters and gatherers who specialized in the production of certain kinds of goods. More beneficial to produce goods for large societies and more independent. Three forms of distribution/ exchange: reciprocity - equal exchange of products, redistribution - collect goods by central authority, market - free exchange of products and service for money or goods; supply and demand, reciprocity. * exchange of goods and services of roughly equal value between two parties without the use of money. * three types of reciprocity: generalized reciprocity - conducted among family members with the highest level of moral obligations. Giving something to someone without any expectation of immediate return. In hunting and gathering society, generalized reciprocity is very common.
