Document Summary

Sensory receptors: dendrites of neurons specialized to detect certain types of stimuli: exteroceptors: detect stimuli from outside the body (ex. taste, hearing, vision, interoceptors: receive stimuli from inside the body (ex. Chemoreceptors detect and respond to chemicals: e. g. pain receptors respond to chemicals released by damaged tissue, smelling odors, blood ph Mechanoreceptors: respond to mechanical forces, e. g. a full bladder, muscle stretching or hearing soundwaves. Thermoreceptors: stimulated by temperature changes, in hypothalamus. Integration of stimuli can modulate the sensation. Sensory adaptation, decrease in stimulus respond can occur with repetitive stimuli (e. g. odor) Overall, process is really a type of homeostasis. Awareness of where our body parts are within the space occupied. Signals from our muscle fibers that sends signal to our nerve spinal. Special senses: taste, smell, hearing, vision, equilibrium. Papillae of the tongue contains the most of the taste bud.
