Description
SOCIAL CAPITAL  Sampson and Laub and Thornberry both employ concept of "social capital" in conjunction with Hirschi’s social bond theory  Hirschi's social bond theory drew from Durkheimian notions of community, social cohesion, and social solidarity.  Social capital refers to the social resources that individuals have available to them – social relationships, neighbourhood networks, the degree of social support that they receive from family, friends, employers, etc.  Social capital is roughly equivalent to social bond – attachment, commitment, involvement  Individuals with strong social capital unlikely to commit crime
