Asses the status of the individual entering the program. Aid in prescribing or limiting activity of certain indivuals. Increase motivation for entering and adhering to an excerise program. Evaluate the success of a program in achieving its objectives characteristics of a good physical fitness test. Validity- a valid test is one that measures effectively what it is supposed to measure. Reliable tests yields the same approx same scores when administered twice the the same individual. If result is not repeatable, repeat measurements several times and take the mean. Objectivity- multiple testers agree on the scoring of test. Accuracy- a measure of how close a result is to the true value. Systematic errors- errors that systematically shift the measurements in one direction away from true value caused by instrumentation errors or incorrect measurement techniques. Norms-allow a relative rating or classification of the subjects performance. They describe a person s position in a population.
