Military Doctrine o Military doctrine follows government policy – for the most part o Translation allows the military to “gloss over” certain aspects o Operational experience is also a key factor o Canada  Mainstreams NTS  Flexibility through multi-purpose planning  Accepts place in WOG arrangements o Australia  Focuses on combat but makes room for NTS  Flexibility through “adapt-down” practice  Willing to work with OGDs where necessary Force Structure o Enables activities – does not determine them o NTS-relevant FS changes are the result of experiences of inadequacy o NTS-relevant FS changes have not changed the overall nature of either military Operational Activities o Changing nature of domestic deployments o Using regional stability as a strategic barrier o Canada  Security = center of grav
