Women are the hardworking ones who wake up as early as 3am and works the entire day from that point to 11 pm. The man wakes up when he desires and has breakfast, then takes the livestock out. They participate in local games, then they rest, ask for food again, and repeat. Some women are there because of british soldiers and rape, and/or abusive husbands and lack of respect. Sibiyan is the head of umoja, and was the first to inhabit it in 1991. There are over 300 individuals in the village alone. Sibiyan"s children witnessed her having a good life in the village and joined her, also going to school there. Many were banished by their communities after becoming victims to rape by british soldiers. Sometimes women doesn"t have even the right to eat and be the last to eat, unless there"s nothing to eat for several days before umoja.
