Document Summary

All sexually reproducing organisms show the phenomenon of alternation of generations. A sporophyte provides better protection against harmful mutations. When grown in shade, the leaves are bigger because they want to try to get as much sun as possible. Apical meristems (indeterminate or permanent): shoot apical meristem (sam) and root apical meristem (ram) The activity of apical meristems results in primary growth and increase the length of the shoot-root axis and the height of the plant. Lateral meristem (permanent) such as cambium that produces xylem towards the inside and phloem towards the outside. Increases the diameter of the plant (secondary growth) Lateral meristems are also indeterminate or permanent. Temporary meristems produce organs with finite size, such as leaf and flower parts. They lose their meristematic character when the organ reaches full size (leaf, flower, etc). Primary growth: when plants grow taller/higher (apical meristem) Secondary growth: when plants increase their diameter (lateral meristem)
