Each kingdom groups together all forms of life having certain fundamental characteristics in common. There are many speci c subcategories within the classi cations. Species: a group of individuals that regularly breed together. or, a group or population with distinct characteristics. Carl linnaeus (1701-1778) was the father of taxonomy and of these classi cations. Until about 50 years ago, classi cation was only based on observations of behavior. Now, there is more focus on dna, etcetera in the di erence. Plants: organisms that were immobile and apparently made their own food. Animals: organisms that could move about and relied on other organisms for food. There are two million described species on earth. There is a huge margin of error for the believed number of species.
