Due to some of the functional attributes of gfp (green fluorescent protein)! Fusion proteins, reporter constructs/vectors located upstream of the promoter to find when specific genes are expressed. Beta sheets makes an internal cavity controls ability to fluoresce! Crystallography and x-ray diffraction have been useful to identify protein structure. We need to look at the structure of the protein (not just the amino acid sequence) to predict some of the properties of proteins. We can purify large quantities of protein in order to get some idea about their function. High concentrations of purified protein can organize to form crystal lattices. These crystals can be bombarded with high energy beams (i. e. x-rays) which are scattered according to the atomic arrangement of the atoms within the crystal (always take on the lowest energy conformation when it"s in the crystals) The scatter pattern is detected by radioactive detectors and the data is analysed by complex programs to provide a prediction of electron density.
