Document Summary

One removes the gamma phosphate and adds a gmp from a gtp molecule. Another adds methyl to the n7, forming the 7-methylguanosine structure. Contains rnp1 and rnp2 for interaction with phosphate. 4 sheets + 2 -helices: rgg box. 5 arg-gly-gly repeats + aromatic amino acids in b/t. Interacts with rna through hydrophobic surface made of -helices + 1 strand. Important factors hnrnp: heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein particles: surround the mrna inside the nucleus, contains hnrna (pre-mrna + other nuclear rna molecules, contains proteins involved in post-transcriptional processing and transportation. Ctd (carboxy-terminal domain) tail: brings along the proteins involved in splicing and polyadenylation links transcription to those processes. Em images of rna bound to some regions of denatured dna evidence of rna splicing. Steps of rna splicing: u1 snrna and u2 snrna must bind to the g site and a branch point, correspondingly. Current spliceosome is more effective; greater speed, accuracy, specificity, etc.
