Document Summary

De nition: group of organisms produces from one stock or ancestor. Easy to misunderstand because it can mean slightly different things in different situations. In biology can use cloning when we take cells apart in an early embryo. Early divisions give rise to individual cells that are all equivalent: separate and allow to grow individually -> all will give rise to their own embryo. By doing so we end up getting all of these frogs that were cloned from an individual mother. All genetically identical: experiment done by john gernin. Stem cells divide and will give rise to full organisms. One can replace the nucleus of an egg by the nucleus of an adult somatic cell. This can then be implanted to produce an embryo. We can clone animals based on taking one particular nucleus out of cells and reintroducing it into an appropriate environment where reprogramming can take place.
