Document Summary

Lecture 14 - cell-interactions and extracellular matrix iv. From last lecture: we can dissociate cells (e. g. from an embryo, with 2 reagents: trypsin & edta) Experiment 1: transfect l cells (fibroblast) with a plasmid that express the e-cadherin proteins and another plasmid expressing n-cadherins. Mix the cells sort out according to the cadherins they have on their surface. On the surface of the cell aggregates are the n-cadherins and the e-cadherins will appear at the center. Experiment 2: express different levels of e-cadherins (high and low levels) the cells will also sort out according to their level of e-cadherins that they express on their surfaces. 2 proteins both bind an adaptor in the center rare. We already talked about (1) cadherins and (2) integrins. There are 2 other families of cell adhesion molecules: the (3) ig-superfamily cams and the (4) mucin-like cams.
