ANAT 214 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Anatomical Terms Of Location, Sternal Angle, Anatomical Plane
Document Summary
Structure x is more anterior to y x stands in front of y. Anterior (ventral (front)) posterior (dorsal (back)) superior (cranial (above)) inferior (caudal (below)) Distal (away from) proximal (getting closer to) Bilateral on both side (e. g. ears) Anatomical planes: there is 3 coordinates and so, 3 planes: If we put the transverse and sagittal planes together, where they meet, it creates a line an axis. Sagittal & coronal planes longitudinal axis. The transverse plane can move along this line (without interfering with the sagittal or coronal planes) Jugular notch, sternal angle, subcostal plane, intertubercular, pubic symphysis. These landmarks are helpful for us to localize where the structures are located inside. We can subdivide the abdomen into sub regions: regions (9): 2 horizontal lines (subcostal & intertubercular planes) and 2 vertical lines (midclavicular planes) creates a grid on the abdomen. In between the midclavicular lines, there is the epigastric (epi = above, gastric = stomach), umbilical and pubic (hypogastric) regions.
