Document Summary

The visual system in your brain is able to make assumptions based on what you see These assumptions, for the most part, are not learned, but are hard-wired. The eye is like a camera - it has a lens. The cells in the lens does not turn over unlike other tissues and cells in the body. Large amount of focusing done by the cornea. The light changes speed when it enters a different medium: air vs water. The bending of the light is taking place in the cornea. Significance of the lens is that it can change its shape, can make fine adjustments in order to focus. The eye is filled with a certain substance called the aqueous humour between the cornea and the lens: the vitreous humour is a mixture of the aqueous humor and a gel-like substance. The pressure from the fluid is what keeps the shape of the eye.
