Document Summary

Visual pathway: remember that most of the visual cortex is located medially so is not visible from the outside view. V2 or area 18: the visual information actually travel in two different directions: dorsally and ventrally into very high-order visual cortex. Primary visual cortex contains a retinotopic map of the external visual field: regions of visual space is mapped into a circle. The right half of the visual world is mapped onto the left primary visual cortex: and vice versa. The bottom half of the visual field is mapped onto the dorsal bank of the calcarine sulcus: and vice versa. The middle area (center) of your visual world is what the fovea sees: the fovea represents a very small amount of visual space, but it represents almost half of the primary visual cortex. Just like how the fingers have a large representation in the somatic sensory cortex.
