Trh is the major driver ( positive regulator) of t4 synthesis. T3 is a negative regulator of trh gene expression. T3 increases expression of the trh peptidase at the nerve ending. Thus post-translational control of trh expression is germaine. Fast + leptin: rise t4, but not to baseline when fed. Leptin, an adipocyte-derived hormone, conveys information about energy stores of the periphery to the hypothalamic nuclei.
