Bush meat: monkey (primates) meat & bat meat. Easily to get deadly virus from primates due to genetic similarity. It is easier to make food safe to consume, rather than educate people not to eat them. Introduction to virology: viruses are the smallest self-replicating organisms. Group vi retrovirus hiv: the baltimore classification scheme of classification is based on the form of nucleic acid present in the virion particles. As well as the pathway for expression of the genetic material: positive-sense viral rna is similar to mrna and can immediately be translated by the host cell. Purified rna is not infectious by itself: viruses containing ambisense single-stranded rna genomes are grouped under negative sense single-stranded rna viruses. Ambisense means that the virus resembles a negative sense rna virus, however they can also translate genes from the positive strand. Steal protein from host cell: have lipid-bilayer membranes. Impermeable barrier between their genomes and the outside environment: e. g. hiv, influenza.
