Evans-pritchard and structural functionalism: malinowski and ethnographic fieldwork. Malinowski works in south pacific in early part of his career and africa in later part of his career. He did a lot of ethnography for south pacific. Boaz started the shift from ethnography to ethnology and then it really sinks in with malinowski. Malinowski is responsible for this romantic image that people have of anthropologists. Imagine yourself suddenly set down by all your gear, alone on a tropical beach close to a native village, while the launch or dinghy which has brought you sails away out of sight . He was living in the uk at the time where class was very important. He was living in a lower class as a polish immigrant.
