Document Summary

Our mmediate ancestors occupied the myriad transitional spaces. That characterize the gulf between modern primates and us. We diverged from chimps 6-8 million years ago. We"re interested in what happened after this divergence. There was this incredible acceleration of genetic change that happened her. Our early ancestor was closer to the chimps than us. Primates are remarkably diverse taxonomic order, nearly 300 species. There are only 3 or 4 consistent across entire order. But the following are common amongst mostp: five digits on each hand and foot, with opposable thumbs or big toes, flat nails (protect underside of digits) Instead of claws: generalized dentition - not specific dental form. We"ve adapted for an omnivorous diet: presence of a clavicle, the collarbone. It allows for increased range movement in upper body. Allows for more range in the shoulders: forward facing eyes with binocular, stereoscopic vision. The intersection of where our eyes see, is what we see: postorbital closure or bar.
