ANTH 206 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Earth Summit, Folk Taxonomy
Document Summary
It is widely thought that traditional ecological knowledge, if well integrated to existing or future biodiversity conservation initiatives can improve such initiatives at the same time as they could empower communities. Biggest policy impact at and after the rio summit (1992), it can be measured and can be mapped. Intuitive: humans learn through education and so do goats. Knowledge is also related to social status and it changes through discussions and exchanges. Folk taxonomies considered un t for systematic botanical plant characteristics. Implication = tek is un t for knowing" biodiversity. There"s a lot of different social struggles ideas within the formation of traditional knowledge itself. You cant nd one particular unit that will help you crack open the black box of tek, unlike biological things. Tek isn"t reducible to one parameter so it doesn"t come in units, it"s not easy to understand.
