Mosque of professor"s research; notice peacefulness inside mosque but looking out at. Ns - complainant filed a case of sexual assault in ontario trial court: sexual assault against two family members. Case then goes back to trial court and judge then once again has to weigh decision to allow her to wear niqab or not. This case raises interesting questions about role of religion in public life. New quebec government - discussion of banning workers in public sector from wearing ostentatious religious symbols. Aims: holistic understanding, understanding religion not as the soul driving force of people"s lives but as part of a broad picture, understanding through informants categories. Ethnography: written documentation of a culture. Religion is about a set of conditions that establish order and meaning in the world this allows us to think of religion in the context of other social practices.
