Ethnography- when the world becomes female: key concepts of vesham and ugram, the way flueckiger discusses/describes gangamma, analysis of gender and ritual and how they relate to vesham and ugram. Gender is looked at concretely by looking at how men and women worship and relate to the goddess differently. Telling of the story of gangamma is not seen in the ritual/festival. Goal of festival is to energize the goddesses and call for their protection, and also to satisfy the hunger that accompanies their heightened state to avoid dangers. Festival is immensely popular- up to 500,000 people attend each day.
