This week"s readings explore the themes of masculinities and sexuality of men. As was said in many of your reading responses, the study of masculinity has rarely been at the center of archaeological research. You can"t fully understand one without understanding the other. Citing meskell, williams described the dangers that come with ignoring masculinities in engendered archaeological analysis. If we bring it back it doesn"t have to be seen as taking the focus back from the women, but rather as implementing feminist methodologies to the study of masculinity. If we don"t talk about masculinity, we assume it as the default. Bryn william studied of two hegemonic masculinities of chinese immigrants in san jos . Both william and joyce heavily relied on butler"s definition of embodiment. Reading responses joyce"s paper: joyce focuses on the male gaze and the male body among the ancient classic.
