Hurricane conditions necessary is warm water for significant depth in the coean. This is because sunlight doesn"t penetrate that deeply. As winds start to blow need to pick up warm water. Upwelling can locally cool surface water temperatures by bringing cold water up from underneath. Colder the water the less evaporation takes place. Furing these typical conditions surface currents telp to transport cold, nutrient rich water upwards along west coast of south america. Warm pool of surface water in wester tropical pacific extends farther east to the peruvian coast. Warm water suppresses upwelling of cold, nutrient rich water from below. Harmful for fishing because fish stay deeper with nutrients not being brought up in upwelling.
