Piezoresistors use the piezoelectric effect, which is the accumulation of charge due to mechanical deformation. In the piezoresistive effect, changes/deformation of the material leads to changes in resistivity (which in turn, leads to charge generation) Piezoresistive coefficient: 1958: the first integrated circuit (ic): 1 transistor, 3 resistors, and 1 capacitor. In 1968, the resonant gate transistor was developed: cantilevers were the first mems to be built. It joins mechanical with electrical components & is called a resonant gate. It served as a frequency filter for ics. In 1971, intel introduced the microprocessor which paved the way for the personal computer: performs basic arithmetic, logical, control, & i/o operations on a single chip. In 1979, hp developed the thermal inkjet printers that used tiny nozzles (mems: an array of tiny nozzles is created by mems technology. Put the dna in water & do the same thing but at a regulated temperature. Can print dna assays by this method.
