Obtaining energy: Autotrophs obtain light or chemical energy from the environment -They must also obtain carbon from CO2 and other minerals -Include producers Heterotrophs consume organisms which have already stored energy -Include herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, saphrobes Energy Use: Food must be broken down in order to obtain usable energy Enzyme-activated chemical reactions occur Energy stored in chemical bonds is transferred to new chemical bonds -Exergonic reactions -Energy
