The reason why odysseus spends his next 10 years at sea. The story inspires the story of sinbad the sailor in arabian nights: the third voyage. For the remainder of the story the main antagonist is poseidon. Live in a land where the sun never sets. They are also portrayed as semi-nomads, like the cyclopes: for the greeks, they represented the antithesis of civilization, they did not have polis, laws, are cannibals, no urban center. Sirens: usually depicted as a female top half and a lower half that of a fish"s. Their appearance in greek myth however, was that of a mix between a bird and a woman. Everything goes according to plan, even though the sirens offer him the chance to gain more knowledge. Charybdis and scylla: odysseus must choose between two passages, one had charybdis, a living whirlpool monster. Calypso: a sea nymph inhabiting the island.
