The Twelve Olympians (the Olympian Pantheon):
Zeus (sky king: justice)
Poseidon (sea)
Hephaestus (forge/fire)
Ares (war)
Apollo (prophecy)
Hermes (travellers)
Dionysus* (wine)
Hera (queen: family)
Demeter (crops)
Athena (wisdom)
Artemis (hunting)
Aphrodite (sexual attraction)
Hedes is not an Olympian because he does not dwell on Olympus, but rather the
Underworld. He is very influential on mortals because they all die and go to his domain
Hestia is the goddess of the hearth; sacred center of a home where the fire is kindled,
the women’s area of the house. As a result of her being a virgin, never has any fun,
never goes anywhere and only serves the function of presiding over banquets, she is not
considered part of the 12 Olympians
