Codes: attribute designed into a technology or system that become normalized or generalized as standards to the extend that they define the operation and use of the technology or system. Also legal regulations, customary practices, and technological design elements. They influence what people can and cannot do with technologies and they create the parameters of what we can do. We look at earlier versions of technology as lesser than new technologies. There"s a particular sub discipline of communications studies: science and technology studies. It"s only through a politicization of code that we now have ramps at the school.
