This assignment uses python to deal with word counts and word pairs. See the lecture recording for hints as to how to complete the project. Primitive for network communication provided by os-provided abstraction for how data can be exchanged across the network. A set of rules for chatting between users, mediated by a server. Client connects to a server and identifies itself; the clients can then direct messages between clients. Xmpp is a standard, and the basis of many chatting systems (that now use their proprietary sets of rules) Bot-net (many computers that have the same software directed towards the same goal (ie taking down facebook)), backdoor, ddos. Underlines the importance of security and congestion control. Browser sends http request (http outlines the protocol to make the request) to a web server. Web pages are sent back to your browser in the format html. -- html is not code; it is not dynamic and cannot change programmatically.
