Therefore, scholars started to shift their attention from jesus christ to the gospels themselves. How do we read it?: how did we get them? (source, form, redaction criticism, how were they composed? (social anthropology and classical philosophy) He did not study the gospel from a historical pov, but a theological one. Pros: maintain the church tradition, explain matthew and luke against mark, why the similarities, explains shortness of mark. Parables, miracles (healing/exorcism), pronouncement stories, individual sayings (logio), passion (account of jesus" death) Bultmann recognized that the form of speech has social signi cance.
