To be a roman in the roman empire, was to be a roman citizen. Paul early initiator of early christian movement, and constructed the new testament. Food production, was unindustrialized, and so it was difficult to have enough food supply. Most people in the mediterranean world were peasants. Food production can only be engaged on the land. One bad year = slaves or starve to death: most gospels from this class, this is where the jewish society was not different than any other region, most jews, in the jewish homeland, were in this class. Josephus tells us the beginnings of unrest. In jesus lifetime there were no roman soldiers in galilee: this was nerve racking for everyone who owned property, high priest, the interest of high priest is similar to the roman empire, golan heights above galilee. Judas the galenite is from the golan heights: top name at the time so do not assume they are all the same.
