Expectation that readers will relate to ideal type of violence. Spiritual ancestor for ppl in assignment: josephus explains motivation in pharisaic terms of kingship of god. Antiquities 18; people who made light of lying = cater to mob. Samaritans: samaria = geographical region, half as many samartians as jews, self understanding of samaritans; Use the torah: coalition of 12 tribes. In the period of second temple there was gerazin, priests from aaron made sacrifices to god as they did in jerusalem. Both israelites, from samaritan pov; just get over it, ignore. Mixed up in religion, not sure if really worship true god.
