Light is reflected off the mirror, and our eyes are fooled into thinking it"s coming out of the mirror in a straight line. This type of image produced by a flat mirror is called a virtual image. We cannot see images in rough surfaces. Big idea explored this week in lab: light can interact with matter in predictable. This big idea about light can help us explain a number of phenomena. Diamonds (and other polished, cut gemstones) sparkle because they trap light inside, where it reflects off mul?ple surfaces. The moon scatters and reflects light from the sun. It does not produce its own light like stars do. Moon revolves around earth once every 28 days. That is why we see the phases of the moon.
