Document Summary
Pinter and beckett were so playful about the idea that people were so intent on finding meaning in things they presented in their plays. 59 - we see a change in davies attitude, he moves towards being more empathetic to aston. Davies repeats: "but you don"t understand my meaning" twice to aston. It is phrased in a rhetorical and poetic way - the fact that we always try to find meaning and significance in the world around us. An effect of pinter"s plays is that there seems to be a lurking threat in his plays that could come from anywhere. The idea that anything could be threatening at any moment, the feeling of threat that comes when your sense of identity is destabilized which happens to davies (pg. 56 - mick keeps asking who davies is: "what"s your name?")
