How poems get written and where they come from. Poetry, paintings + art included along w/ poetry. 1936- first poem (the moth) and final book in 2009. Wrote poems that wanted to sympathy dense imagistic style (build up images, metaphors and create imagery that way) The waves wold made her want to be a writer- inspired. Opened up literature and imagination for her. Gender- being a woman writer spaces of female creativity + area behind the eyes. Cultural disjunction btw these 2 associating them w/ modern life and can= past + romantic. Montreal foundation of 2 little magazines (non-commercial self-published by writers) Preview known for writing poetry like the stenographers. Started thinking of poetry in an academic way. Not just state emotion- convey emotion that"s more universal (through object other ppl can experience it) felt like she had to write the older writers. Reaction against romanticism something more universal than own experience will allow you to convey.
