Tagore has the unique honor of being the imposer of two national anthems: also someone who went to us in 1917 and critiques nationalism as very western. This song, written in 1911, became the national anthem in 1950. Independent nation states, which all have a national anthem: most nations have one song that glorifies the space of the nation. Tagore belongs to a reformist: bramho, really unique among the tradition because they are un-iconic. Don"t worship dieties, moves from an iconic religion. Global genre, just like the novel is. Pedagogical in nature: teaches you a certain way of imagining space. All national anthems are patriotic lyrics, not all natonal anthems are patriotic lyrics. Re-enchanting a space, imagination of a space. Re-appropriation of a classical symbol i. e. britannia: goes hand in hand with production of feminine/anthropomorphic representation of territories. Patriotism is a certain type of devotion.
