Document Summary

In the last few years of his life he became an outspoken critic of his government and political regimes. For most of his career he was considered an apolitical playwright. This has caused people to rethink what they thought about his past works. His style of playwriting had a social impact, a word came into existence to explain instances of life in general that reminded people of pinter"s plays - pinteresque. There"s a subtlety of his style, his lays often take place in mundane simple environments with simple people having simple conversations. Yet what people observe is that as a writer he injects into this simple world and element of strangeness, something lurking, unspoken in the environment. This strangeness that manifests often in the pauses and silence in his plays is what people see as being important in his plays. His atheism was a part of his overall rejection of authority figure.
