There are some specificities to visual metaphors that are not proper to linguistic metaphors. Moloch! clip from metropolis 1927: takes place in a dystopian future. A dangerous creature that one would sacrifice things and people to. There has to be some sort of fusion revolving around homospatiality: occupation of one space by two entities (moloch and the turbine occupy the same space, they are homospatial). Noncompossibles: things that can"t be fused bc so different. Filmic metaphors fuse those two things that are categorically different. The statement taken literally is false. ( is" = false) Visual metaphors therefore demonstrate the homospatiality of noncompossibles. Implicit or explicit in the case of verbal metaphor. Noncompossibility is the detect of the visual metaphor: fuse things that don"t go together in structures that are inapt for it. Blinds/eyes, water, towel don"t count as filmic metaphors according to carroll"s defintion because don"t have homospatiality.
