Document Summary
The oldest data available is from central england starting in the 17th century. Most data was only able to be collected starting in the 19th century. Information can also be gleaned from other records (like diaries, chronicles, shipping logs, tax records, newspapers, crop production and pricing records, glacier advance/retreat data, art and literature, anecdotes etc) Natural data can be collected (coral/ice cores, sediments, pollen, tree rings etc) The last glacial maximum was 18,000 years ago. Many lakes in temperate and lower latitudes have disappeared. Sea levels have risen and vegetation have changed (shifting northwards) Occasional rapid change of climate has occurred in the past 15,000 years.
