Description: energy generation has become one of the most important topics in the world. There
are many countries where nuclear power plays a very important role. In 2017, they are 400
nuclear reactors in operating which provide 11% of electricity worldwide. People are looking to
use renewable energy. However, nuclear power cannot be produced at a large scale. Nuclear fuel
is produced using radiation (striking particles and causing reactions). There are numerous
benefits to using nuclear energy such as carbon emissions. Nuclear power also saves lives
because it has prevented deaths according to NASA. However, the by product of nuclear fuel is
very toxic. Therefore, it must be avoided. Nuclear waste is very difficult to handle. There are many
ways to deal with plutonium which is the main nuclear toxic waste.

1. Give a brief overview of the nuclear energy usage in Canada.
Canada has the best energy consumption. We do consume nuclear energy about 16% to 17% of
energy is nuclear energy. Nuclear power plants have been producing electricity commercially in
Canada since the early 1960s. Today, 5 nuclear plants in three provinces (New Brunswick, Ontario
and Quebec) with 22 generators in the country are used to produce all this energy.
2. Describe where and how the nuclear waste is stored in Canada.
There are three levels of waste
1. High levels of waste are stored in thick containers. There are three types of dry storage:
concrete canisters
Modular Air-cooled Storage (MACSTOR) units
dry storage containers
