Document Summary

Can be a social/ societal adjustment as well. Changes over time: seen increase in number of people in poverty in high income countries but the proportion of people in poverty has gone down, the bottom 90% of workers saw increase in income from the 1940s-1980s. In the 1980s the normal worker started making less money (due to lack of unionization and automation) Income stays stagnant which is an issue when urban area cost of living increases and inflation increases: allot of people can"t keep up with the standard of living. Threshold income defines the poverty line: size of family, ages of members, are they elderly/ adults etc (can they work or not) If family unit is below thresholds whole unit is in poverty: moment you leave the house you have a new threshold. Multi-dimensional poverty index: ten indicators health, education, living standards, could be high in one but not all.
