GEOG 216 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Income Distribution, Remittance, Human Development Index
Document Summary
September 10 growth and development lecture 3. Growth happens through acquisition of new resources or technological change. If there are allot of multinational companies one may be lower then the other: the country of the citizens that matter. Gni incomes receives rather than value of goods and services. Remittance and aid: gni incomes received rather than value of goods and services, can capture what is coming into the country through remittances and through foreign aid, alternate measures, all income from goods and services. Gdp has never been measure of standard of living (although can be used like this) Life expectancy and gdp: relationship is fairly narrow band but there are exceptions (low lifeexpectancy vs high gdp) Need to look at other ways to think about what/ how development occurs other then just looking at growth. Hdi = get a measure that measures health, education and income.
