Document Summary

Life expectancy at birth by neighborhood income quintile, canada (graph on slide 2) Graph shows the relationship between life expectancy and neighborhood income quintile (the neighborhood"s average income represents socio-economic standing) Over time you an see increase in life expectancy over all neighborhood quintiles (not just the highest income areas) Shows that the richest men in canada still live less time than the poorest women. But the differentiation between men and women in terms of social conditions are narrowing over time, as their lifestyle habits become more similar (e. g. women adopting smoking habits ) The social patterning of men is a lot more stark than for women you can see that the lines for men are much more spread out than the lines for women which are closer together. Even adopting universal health insurance didn"t seem to change the life expectancy disparity patterns much. When children die young, they account for more dalys.
