GSFS 400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Unconsciousness
Document Summary
Presentation 1: unconsciousness is still cognitive and mp is talking about other than the thought. )dea of one"s own capabilities to exist outside oneself: focusing on desire and transpositions. Solomon(cid:495)s text discussed why we should validate perceptions beyond our own, because of the fact that they all stem from authentic desire that is embodied and diverse. The rhetoric of (cid:498)being too sensitive(cid:499) is extremely prevalent in contemporary society. In learning, you may be offended since you are discussing topics you may not be aware of: there are different limits to sensitivity, something may be offensive but sometimes it is just your perception of it. Solomon criticizes mp for having a pretty uninteresting read of freud. Instead of actually denouncing psychoanalytics, he just moved the ideas of the unconscious from the mind to the body, reconfiguring the typography, but using the same terms. Yet it is also mentioned in the text that relationally in this context discredits cartesian ways of thinking.
