Republic to empire 2: the social war & sulla. Lucius cornelius cinna (consul 87, 86, 85, 84) The unrest of the provinces and allies peaked in 91 bc. Marcus livius proposed a law to allow citizenship and more rights to the provinces of italy. But what really drives events was that marcus livius is found dead and there were rumours that he was murdered by political opponents. This event triggers a widespread spontaneous revolt of rome"s allies (first of it"s kind) The war was very brutal and difficult - romans were fighting romans. No military advances (everyone knew the same fighting tactics) This new federal states (the revolters) minted their own coin, their own army, etc. They had a type of alliance where power was shared evenly between the allies unlike in their alliance with rome. Their coin was minted in oscan, and depicts the italian bull killing the roman wolf.
